Amaranthus albus (pigweed, tumble)

Family: Amaranthaceae

Description

The word `albus` in the scientific name means `white` and refers to the prominently white stems of this species. The leaves are small, similar to prostrate pigweed, and the plant takes on a very round, bushy growth habit becoming a `tumbleweed` at maturity. As with all members of this genus, the flowers are tiny, green, and subtended by small spines.
