Ceratocephala testiculata (buttercup, bur)

Family: Ranunculaceae

Description

Also known as `male buttercup` (see scientific name). This tiny annual is one of the first species to flower in the spring and often has matured, forming dense patches of burs, by the time other weeds begin to flower. The plants are seldom more than 4-6 inches tall, and the cylindrical burs are much more noticeable than the flowers.
