A native, annual weed. The primarily opposite stem leaves are often marked with a red-purple blotch. Easily distinguished from other spurges by its toothed leaves. Generally growing in dry sites. The plant pictured in the 1979 Nebraska Weeds as Euphorbia serrulata is probably Euphorbia dentata as the former is not known to occur in the U.S. despite being listed by WSSA with the IDENTICAL common name as Euphorbia dentata. Euphorbia dentata auct. non Michx = E. davidii
