This species is very similar to Malva neglecta (common mallow) but with the petals shorter than the sepals and the surface of the fruits with prominent roughened ridges. The leaves are also much more prominently palmately lobed and the plants more erect. Little mallow is much less frequent than common mallow in the northern states but very common in the south. Apparently this is what is identified as Malva pusilla in Ontario Weeds.
