The petals and sepals similar in appearance, white on the inner surface and with a green stripe down the back. The leaves are grasslike and folded. The plants originate from a white, fleshy bulb which produces many smaller bulblets. These bulblets are easily distributed by cultivation and the species can be extremely weedy in cultivated crops. The bulbs are toxic.
