The `corn` in corn poppy is due to the fact that in Europe what we call wheat, they call corn. This species is extremely weedy in wheat fields. Flowers normally scarlet with a dark (black) blotch near the base of each petal. Plants bristly hairy. The fruits are nearly spherical. Also known as field poppy.
