A spiny, rhizomatous perennial similar to Solanum elaeagnifolium (silverleaf nightshade) but with less hairy, more toothed leaves. Unlike stinging nettles, this plant is really a nightshade. Notice how the flowers are similar to potato or tomato flowers which also belong to the nightshade family. At maturity it produces a yellow-orange berry which is poisonous. Occurring in light or sandy soils.
